You play as one of three different characters on each playthrough, with unique abilities and combat mechanics during the story. You play as three characters throughout all of NieR Automata's main story.
These characters are 2B, 9S, and A2.
Your first two playthroughs will be with 2B and 9S, which will be focused on similar events but from different perspectives, offering alternate scenes and plot details. Your third playthrough will allwo you to control the android A2 after the events of your previous playthroughs with 2B and 9S. This offers an alternate perspective to everything that happened in your previous playthrough, but there are a few slight differences in both the cutscenes and gameplay. In a few specfic sections of the story, 9S will have to take some actions that you didn't need to do so as 2B, but the outcomes of the battles and plot are the same. The biggest change are the number of Hacking mini-games you will need to complete during some sections of the story.
You can also manually hack enemies to either take control of them, deal extra damage, or in some cases instantly destory them. This becomes key in some of the later battles where you face Adam, Eve, and even some of the other robot bosses.
Though the events that follow are the same, sometimes you'll see an alternate cutscene that gives mroe backstory to the plot. More importantly however, you can open up the chests found throughout the story that 2B could not open beforehand. Hacking these chests will yield extra materials and sometimes new weapons. You can also find additional Archives in some of these chests that open up information in your Intel section of the menus. On your third playthrough of Nier Automata, you have the ability to play as the android A2.
However, unlike your previous two playthroughs, you'll experience different events that take place after 2B and 9S story. During this time, you also have the option to choose to play as 9S on your third playthrough.
But choosing A2 will open up different elements of gameplay previously inaccessible beforehand during the game. A2 controls in a very similar fashion to that of 2B, with only one major addition to her abilities.
When in Berserk mode, your weapon attacks dela more damage and you move a lot faster than normal. However during this state, you begin to lose health over time until you have very little health left.View related sites.
